Flexiv robots leverage responsive torque control across all seven joints, efficiently dampening vibrations and making them ideal for demanding grinding environments. Their lasting reliability, attributed to torque-controlled joints, along with their outstanding surface finishing quality, has been verified in numerous applications within the automotive sector. In grinding, stability is essential, as the forces involved are substantial. In contrast, deburring requires efficient material removal at high speeds, which can sometimes lead to overcutting. Flexiv robots use an overcutting protection feature that allows them to leverage powerful and efficient deburring spindles without the risk of overcutting. This results in a rapid deburring solution with finely finished results, making Flexiv adaptive robots an ideal choice for post-processing (deburring and finishing) of casted parts.

Flexiv Rizon adaptive robots excel at achieving high-precision force control for both tool-to-part and part-to-tool operations. The part-to-tool capability proves particularly advantageous when utilizing standalone sanders or grinders. Operators can effortlessly specify desired force values and directions in the coordinate system of the sander or grinder, alleviating concerns about force application at the robot’s flange. Standalone sanders and grinders are commonly used for material abrasion tasks due to their superior power, efficiency, and cost effectiveness when compared to those mounted to a robot. The integration allows for the consolidation of multiple sanding or grinding processes, eliminating the need for the robot to switch mounting tools in between tasks. This streamlines operations and enhances overall efficiency.

Flexiv robots do not require additional compliance devices to perform force control in polishing tasks. Polishers and sanders can be directly attached to the robot’s flange. This approach reduces the overall weight and size of the robot and tooling solution, resulting in a highly compact setup that accommodates more robots in limited space. This directly enhances polishing efficiency and cycle time. With 7 degrees of freedom, Flexiv robots navigate around obstacles and other robots, improving performance in confined spaces.

When the robot is programmed to execute a repetitive trajectory, it automatically gathers force and motion data, fine-tuning its control parameters to minimize errors. This functionality enables the robot to excel in applications demanding delicate precision to mitigate any potential risk of surface scratches. As demonstrated in the video from one of Flexiv's customers, the robot operated at high speed while exerting a gentle force on the glass surfaces of cell phones. This capability facilitates the swift and secure removal of residual glue.
